Sam Casell Jr. Signs With Maryland

Mar 26, 2012 10:18 AM

Maryland signed Sam Casell Jr. to a full athletic scholarship.

Cassell, the son of former NBA point guard Sam Cassell, chose the Terps over South Florida, Connecticut and Central Florida, among others.

"The hometown school definitely won out," his AAU coach Carlton Carrington told the Baltimore Sun. "I know Sam has had an affection for the University of Maryland. He has a good relationship with Coach Bino (Ranson). I know that they had identified him in the summer time. And they have been very, very persistent. Coach (Mark) Turgeon identified him along with Bino. Once the head coach gets involved, it's hard to get away."
